midsommar (1954) and Trollvinter (1957) with text and
illustrations by Tove Jansson
The author, Tove Jansson, started as painter, but later on also
got involved in writing. Her children's literature has been translated into many languages.
She has received many awards for her work, among which the
Nils Holgerson Medal (1953) and the Hans Christian Andersen
Price (1966)
The Muumi books are originally written in Swedish
and have been translated into: Bulgarian, Chinese, Czech, Danish, Dutch,
English, Esperanto, Estonian, Faroese, Finnish, French,
German, Greek, Hebrew, Hungarian, Icelandic, Italian, Japanese, Korean,
Lithuanian, Lettish, Norwegian, Persian, Polish, Portugese, Russian,
Saamish, Slovakian, Slovenian, Spanish, Ukranian, and Welsh.
Tove died in a Helsinki hospital, age 86,
on 27 June 2001
